Abstract: The article presents part of a study of the history of pedagogy and childhood of the 20th century on the basis of documents from private collections of Urals teachers. The paper looks at the experience of the pedagogues whose professional activity allows personalizing the regional history of the pedagogic community. The object of analysis comprises the pedagogical experience of the teachers A. S. Zyryanova and V. A. Mel’kova in organizing country study activity in the 1960s-1980s. The resources of Krasnovishersk and Solikamsk municipal archives of Perm Krai were used for historical-pedagogical analysis: documents of biographical nature, materials about labor and creative activity, mass media publications, and written testimonies of children. The experience of these teachers presents the ideas progressive for that period of time and implemented in educational practice later. Their analysis was conducted on the basis of culturological and axiological approaches taking into account the criteria of humanistic nature of education, urgency for modern education, and possibility of integration of elements of past experience into modern education and upbringing. The article highlights the main areas of innovative experience of the teachers in organization of country study activity, in interaction between school and social institutes, and the enlightening role of the Urals intelligentsia. The analysis of the valuable pedagogical experience made it possible to actualize the ideas significant for pedagogical practice, and to demonstrate the opportunities of their usage in research and project activity in country study and in improving pedagogical mastery in general.
