Abstract: A throw-back and the retrospective development of theatrical modes of work with children in educational institutions in Russia since the end of 17th century is presented. There is a brief description of theatrical methods, teaching and pedagogic approaches at every stage of history. Special attention is given to necessity of the use the improvisation as a method and a form of theater education for children.
