Abstract: In this article playing by ear is considered on the intersection of different sciences such as philosophy, psychology, physiology, general and special pedagogy. The author analyses the content and the mechanisms of playing by ear as a kind of free playing (without music), its complicated organic nature in order to create an optimal technique of teaching this type of instrumental performance.
