Abstract: The paper analyzes the story by N.M. Karamzin ―Poor Liza‖, which is included in the school curriculum. The author studies the techniques of character drawing of Liza and Erast: monologues, speech, gestures and actions. The undertaken analysis makes it possible to come to the conclusion that the purpose of depicting emotions defined the choice of techniques to describe the complexity of emotional life of the characters. The writer prefers to look at the inner life of his characters ―from outside‖. The use of the story at the lesson creates possibilities for emotional development of schoolchildren.
