Abstract: The paper presents a discussion of one of the oldest problems in the theory of translation – the problem of untranslatability. In the theoretical literature of the twenty-first century, the essence of the problem is discussed. The discussion focuses on the limits of untranslatability. The phenomenon of untranslatability is considered mainly as a genre and a stylistic problem. The untranslatability of poetry and other literary genres, as well as some authors and texts is discussed.
