Abstract: The article deals with the history of development of economy of education and proves, that processual and structural changes in education as a branch of industry, their positive and negative effects, need research and scientific judgment. The author shows that education is a non-material branch of economy and that it should be further divided into sub-industries. The author takes into account quantitative indicators of the state of education as a branch in the industrial structure of national economy.
