Abstract: The review is concerned with the new monograph by O. G. Sidorova, professor of Ural Federal University named after the First President of Russia B.N.Yeltsin, Ekaterinburg. Olga Sidorova’s book “is mainly devoted to the first Russian textbooks of English which appeared in the mid- and late XVIII century”. The history of English teaching is presented in a wider context of cultural and social development of this country.
