Abstract: This article is devoted to the usage of agile methods for developing independent work skills of the students of the Institute of foreign languages. Psychological and pedagogical specification of students, given in this article, explains the necessity of applying new methods to the organization of independent work and gives grounds to applying agile methods. The analysis of achievements and drawbacks in the sphere of independent work organization in general is presented. The authors suggest the methodology of students’ independent work organization, based on the work organization method, which is used in the sphere of information technologies and organization management. Agile methods are a combination of techniques which helps to organize students’ work permanently analyzing the situation and adapting the work for every student. In this article the use of scrum method is described which implies the organization of such-like iterative work. The approbation of this method was done during the organization of independent work of the first-year students of the Institute of foreign languages in the Ural state pedagogical university (Pedagogical education: the English and German languages). To get more accurate results we worked with two groups of students: experimental and control. According to the results of the experiment scrum method leads to the rise in the amount of developed skills among all the students. Control group whose work wasn’t organized on the basis of scrum method showed that only a third part of all the students developed independent work skills. The article presents the detailed description of the procedure of independent work organization with the use of scrum method and the results of the independent work skills development syllabus approbation on the basis of one of the agile methods — scrum.
