Museum of the University History as a Means of Preserving Historical Memory: From the Experience of the Ural State Pedagogical University

Abstract: The history of the Ural State Pedagogical University (USPU) is a whole epoch. It is marked by intersection of destinies and events, a lot of small stories woven into the history of the country. People are changing, years go by, everyday life is becoming more and more dynamic, and the memory of those who are captured in history is carefully preserved in the museum. In 2020 USPU will turn 90 years old. The article is devoted to the role of the museum in the process of preserving the historical memory of the university. The article describes the history of the creation and development of the museum of the Sverdlovsk State Pedagogical Institute later renamed as USPU; it describes the main activities of the museum at the present stage, aimed at preserving historical memory: research, methodological, expositional, excursion, and civil-patriotic activity. The key projects implemented by the museum staff in 2010-2017 are described: “Another childhood: everyday life of children during the Great Patriotic War”, “One Victory for all: a cycle of interactive lessons for orphans”, “The Way to Victory: a historic tournament in the format of the quest ", "On that war unidentified: in the wake of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940", "Search and remember: creating an exposition on the history of the search movement of the Sverdlovsk region ", etc.
