Ensemble Singing as a Means of Teaching Chinese Students Russian Language

Abstract: The urgency of this topic is determined by the growing number of Chinese students in universities of Russia. Poor knowledge of the Russian language, culture and national peculiarities of Russia cause Chinese students many difficulties in learning, which negatively affect education results. This problem stimulates the search for the means of teaching Russian to Chinese students, as well as their acquaintance with cultural and national specifics. Singing might be a solution, especially ensemble singing. The goal of this article is to describe the method of teaching Russian to Chinese students during choral singing. The following research methods have been used: theoretical analysis, generalization, analysis of practical experience of teachers working with Chinese students and methods development. On the basis of the ideas of foreign and Russian researchers we determined the bases of methodology of teaching Russian to Chinese students of the specialty “Musical Education” at the pedagogical university. They include: involvement in singing, group learning (choral singing, methods of teaching efficient in musical and linguistic education). Methods relevant for musical and linguistic education are singled out: revision, contrast, intonation practice, echoing. The organizational bases of choral singing are identified: articulatory and vocal-articulatory practice, learning of new songs, singing with music and a`capella, final performance of a song. The result of this study is the methodology of teaching Russian to Chinese students majoring in “Musical education” at the pedagogical university in the course of choral singing at the subject “Vocal and Choral Ensemble”. This methodology may be used by teachers working with Chinese students of the specialty “Musical Education” to give them better knowledge of the Russian language, to develop their musical potential and to acquaint them with musical and cultural traditions of Russia. It is possible to use the elements of this methodology in musical and language classes with Chinese students of the specialty “Musical Education”.
