The Humanities Educational Technology of the Digital Age

Abstract: The article discusses the concept of “digital age” found in the works of foreign researchers; it outlines the tendencies of digitalization of the process of socialization of children and young people in the categories “good - bad”, “useful - harmful”. The totally opposite evaluations of the result of digitalization process are given: from alarming (the emphasis is on digital addiction) to lauditive (the discovery of the new opportunities for the development of the humanity). Modern psychological and pedagogical studies of the problem of “digital age” are described. The correctness of the terms is analyzed; numerous discussions of the Strauss–Howe generational theory, both public and professional, are reviewed. We analyze introduction of digital technologies in education in the light of the theory of social community in a certain period of time; the main debates on the problem of digital literacy are characterized. Innovative educational environment is described; the possible ways of development of digital technologies are outlined. The theory of four generations is analyzed; these generations form a cycle of social development showing repetition, when the values of the fifth generation are similar to those of the first generation but having some minor differences caused by the different level of social development.
