Abstract: This article discusses the development of the concept of professionally-oriented education associated with the development of new approaches in the theory of teaching foreign languages, the emergence of new modern technologies and the increase in the number of foreign students in Russian universities. In military universities training is mainly conducted on methodological developments, compiled by a team of teachers of the Department, which is caused by the lack of a universal textbook, focused on a particular military engineering specialty (builder, mechanic, electrician). As the analysis of textbooks showed, the existing manuals on the Russian language as foreign do not take into account military specifics. The author describes the concept of professionally oriented teaching, marked by the distinctive features of training manuals for foreign military personnel to the engineering profile, which was preceded by the assessment of linguistic and extralinguistic factors (the curriculum of training of students of basic courses, the estimated level of Russian language proficiency in these courses, etc.). The article highlights the principles of construction and features of the content of the textbook, which includes professionally-oriented texts for reading (engineering profile) and tasks, compiled on the basis of scientific style, and highlights the tasks to be solved. The author lists the main topics of the lessons corresponding to the title of the texts; describes the sections of the textbook; provides examples of tasks for the activation of lexico-grammatical and informative material, and gives their methodological commentary; there are also tasks for intermediate control. In conclusion, the article emphasizes the importance of professionally-oriented training, advantages and prospects of introducing the textbook for foreign military engineering in the educational process.
