Abstract: The article deals with the specifics of the matrix approach in planning competence development of a student majoring in "Personnel Management". E. F. Zeer defined competencies as generalized methods of action that ensure the productive performance of professional duties. The change of the evaluation function is the transition from a simple control of learning to the assessment of the competence development of the student. Evaluation results should be presented in quantity or in levels of appropriate evaluation tools that will record the achievement and results of the student's competence development. The result of professional education is presented as expected, measurable and real achievements of students, expressed through the competence, showing that the graduate is able to perform their professional duties and their competitiveness in the labor market. The matrix of competences will allow to reflect the connection of the curriculum, educational technologies and the levels of the competencies. The matrix of competencies is formed from universal, general professional and professional competencies that affect the development of the student. Matrix approach of competence development of a student gives an opportunity to be open in the sphere of professional education and competitive in the labor market due to the transparency of competences. Matrix approach simplifies the procedure of assessment of the formation of competencies and clearly represents the level of competence development of a student or graduate in the field of training 38.03.03 "Personnel Management". The use of the matrix approach increases the efficiency of the learning process, simplifies the work of the teacher and makes the results of competence development available to students and other interested people.
