Abstract: The article specifies the terms of authenticity, video material, and authentic video material, dwells upon the differences between audio material, video material, and audio-video material and between original and authentic texts. In the article video materials are divided into the groups according to the criteria: type of the video material, genre of the video material, channel of students’ information perception, type of the information presented in the material, means of the material presentation, purpose of the material usage and their role in the language class.
