Abstract: The article describes the main prerequisites for the application of distance education technologies in modern universities. It shows the role of the conception of continuing education in the introduction of distance education technologies in the traditional education process. It analyses the influence of globalization on higher education and the development of distance learning. It examines the relationship between the learner-centered approach and distance education technologies.
