Abstract: The article deals with one of the constituent features of the literary text – fictional character; it also proves the importance of considering this feature for developing methods of teaching text comprehension and interpretation. The author analyzes the opportunities of using literary texts (fictional and fictitious) as a didactic material, describes the ways and methods of work with the fictional aspect of the literary text. The article specifies the problems which prevent from teaching pupils to comprehend literary texts effectively (e.g. considering the author and the work absolutely objective in depicting life, identifying the narrator with the author, etc.); some ways of solving these problems are offered (by creating conditions for pupils' understanding of the aesthetic and artistic value of fiction), there are also examples of pupils' tasks which help them realize the fictional nature of the literary text and develop their creative abilities. These activities can help pupils realize that the literary text combines fiction and factographic description of real life, historical events and personalities are represented with a significant portion of conventionality, and reality gets some typical features.
