Abstract: The problem of formation of Russian identity calls forth the question of consolidation of value orientations and education of traditional social and cultural values and needs of the young people. The interrelation between social and cultural processes in the life of man actualizes the problem of construction of socio-cultural needs. Each of these notions – social and cultural needs – have become meaningful both in psychological and pedagogical science. The notion of socio-cultural needs is being actively used, but it hasn’t become an object of a special psycho-pedagogical research, and has been used without proper definition, with intuitive realization of its essence. Socio-cultural needs of the younger generation, which lie in the center of formation of a person and value-oriented mentality, obtain special social significance. Knowledge of the leading needs of contemporary youth may help create a model of new ideas, necessary for the formation of socio-cultural needs of the younger generation. The article analyzes the notion of sociocultural needs of the youth and substantiates the specific features of socio-cultural needs understood as a human desire to find the reflection the culture of society in one’s being through direct interaction with the society. The author describes the sphere of needs of the young people the potential of socio-cultural needs in the formation of Russian identity among young people.
