Activity of Secondary Special Educational Institutions of Sverdlovsk in Training Teachers in 1945-1955

Abstract: The article studies the work of Sverdlovsk teacher training secondary special educational institutions in the field of training teachers of primary schools and pre-school institutions in the conditions of compulsory seven-year education and transition to compulsory secondary education. The author gives a detailed description of the four teacher training secondary special educational institutions functioning in Sverdlovsk in 1945-1955: A.M. Gorky Teacher Training College, Musical Teacher Training College and two Pre-school Teacher Training Colleges – one offering full-time, and the other one part-time education. The article analyzes the changes in the equipment of these educational institutions, improvement of academic and pastoral activity and advancement in professional training of the staff. Special analysis of the measures taken by the local people‘s education authorities in this period for training teachers in secondary special educational institutions on the basis of general secondary education is carried out. The article shows the peculiarities of socio-political life of educational institutions in the post-war period: the decisive role of the Communist Party and the Komsomol organizations, organizational and ideological control of the party organs and special importance of the communist ideology in the education process.
