Abstract: Article is devoted to the urgent problem of organization of independent learning of students by means of competence-based approach. The aim of the article is to substantiate the role of the case method in the development of professional competence of future teachers. The author analyzes modern views of researchers on the potential of independent learning in university education process. Special attention is paid to the formation of preparation of students to function as elementary school teachers according to the professional standard. The author comes to the conclusion that the most effective way of "immersion" of students in professional activity within the framework of independent learning is the case method. On the basis of the analysis of modern researches, the author reveals the role of the case method in professional education and generalizes the practical experience of the use of the case method in professional training of future teachers. The article describes a special technique of organization of independent learning of students for the case solution on the example of professional training of bachelors in the field of Pedagogical Education (Primary education profile). Considerable attention is paid to the content of the case and the tasks to it. In line with practice-oriented education, these tasks should be brought as close as possible to the real professional activity of the teacher, should reflect the pedagogical situations arising in daily school practice and demanding knowledge and abilities within professional functions of the teacher. The article also describes the criteria of assessment of the results of training with the help of the case method, the ways of evaluation by the teacher, self-evaluation and mutual evaluation by schoolchildren.
