Abstract: The article deals with structural and content-related characteristics of children's preparation for learning at school and develops a hierarchical model of preparation for school, taking into account the specificity of additional education institutions. The analysis of psychological and pedagogical literature has led to the following conclusions. Psychological and pedagogical approach, demonstrating the complex nature of the notion of preparation for school lies at the basis of consideration of the content of children's preparation for school. The authors single out the main components of preparation for school. The conceptual basis of their understanding of preparation is based on the research results of R. V. Ovcharova, T. D. Molodtsova and N. A. Tsyrkun. Taking into account the specificity of additional education institutions the authors have identified three components in the structure of preparation for school: intellectual, emotional-volitional, and socio-personal. The article defines the criteria, indicators and levels of formation (high, medium and low) for each component. Generalized data are presented in the form of a hierarchical model, the structural elements of which are components of preparation for school, criteria and indicators characterizing them, as well as the levels of their formation. The presented hierarchical model of children’s preparation for school can be used at additional education institutions when working with senior preschool children.
Key words: Preparation for school; senior preschool age; institutions of additional education, model, criterion, level.
