Abstract: The article deals with the characteristics of translation of foreign language texts into the native language and describes its types and features. The author pays special attention to teaching translation in secondary schools and notes that they cause problems not only during the teaching process, but also during the self-study process. It is concluded that teaching translation is an important part of learning a foreign language, as it activates a variety of skills and also contributes to the formation of key competences. The article analyzes the existing approaches to the methods of teaching translation. The object of the research is the development of translation skills in secondary schools. The aim of the study is to identify the peculiarities of teaching translation to develop students’ sustainable skills in this type of activity in secondary schools. The analysis of the existing methods of teaching translation will help practicing teachers to prepare the system of exercises directed to the development of students’ translating skills.
