Abstract: The article deals with the content of a special course for students-future teachers "Methods of Prevention of Addictions among Adolescents". The purpose of the article is to reveal modern approaches to the formation of teachers' competence in the field of temperance education. The topic of the article is connected with the problem of training students of pedagogical higher schools for temperance education of children and adolescents. Methods of research include the analysis and generalization of material on temperance education. The methodology of work is based on the ideas of Russian philosophers about the notion of "sobriety" as a most important value of the Orthodox consciousness. As a result of the study the author defines the principles of selection of the content of didactic material on temperance education, describes the stages of procedure for the formation of students' preparation for temperance education of children and adolescents with appropriate objectives, forms and methods of their implementation. The obtained results may be used in the theory and methods of training and upbringing (general education). The results of the practical implementation of the developed methods have led to the realization of students-future teachers of the importance of forming personal temperance beliefs and professional competence in matters of temperance education of children and adolescents.
