Elderly Age as a Stage of the Life Cycle of a Person

Abstract: The article is devoted to the study of the concept of "elderly age" in the context of the problem of periodization of the final stage of human life, the comprehension of the new social context in which aging of people takes place. At present, the chronological age does not correspond to typical concepts of old age. People over 60 years old remain healthy and seek a variety of activities. But society is not ready to react to similar changes adequately. It has a negative impact on social well-being of the older generation. Often people from 63 to 79 years feel as the most unsatisfied. At the same time, those who have reached 80 years of age are able to experience the fullness of enjoyment of life, despite the deterioration of physical ability. There are different points of view what to consider elderly age and what should be called an old age. The article proposes the author's periodization of the final stage. It is based on the practice of counseling of the elderly. Elderly age is understood as a transitional period between periods of maturity and old age, like the age between the childhood and maturity. Therefore, in each specific case, there is a special combination of features of maturity and old age. The article suggests that aging is a very individual process and "there is no typical elderly person. This period is very difficult for personal existence and reflection, and at the same time it opens for the person new opportunities of spiritual development, gaining wisdom, acceptance of old age as a natural period of our lives.
