Theoretical and Empirical Research of Social Surfing of Modern Youth: From the Methodology to the Tools

Abstract: The goal of this article is to describe theoretical, methodological and empirical approaches to the study of the phenomenon of social surfing and its role in the changes of civil agency of the modern youth. Attention is paid to the problems that appeared during this research and the ways to solve them, one of the most efficient being the choice of the most suitable research methods. Social surfing of young people is a certain social or communicative strategy of mobility, it is a phenomenon of modern life that reflects the high level of mobility of young people and the features of the society in general including mobility of social links, the existence of diverse communities and impossibility to treat the world of contemporary young people as something stable and static. The article highlights such aspects of this phenomenon as the importance of differentiation between the strategies of social surfing and the other strategies of mobility of young people, the need to determine its social acceptability, the problem of impossibility of data collection in direct dialogues with the surfers, and the problem of implementation of research results in the work with young people. To overcome these problems and to fulfill conceptual, diagnostic and analyticalprognostic research tasks, it is proposed to use such methods as essay analysis, interview, the methodology “Readiness for social surfing of the youth”, and to use the foresight technology that was developed to deal with social surfing of young people.
