Abstract: The article studies the problems of negative influence of children's beauty contests on psychological and physical health and development of the children participating in them. The negative consequences of participation of children in such competitions are paid special attention, as well as the motives of their sponsors and parents of children participating in such contests. In many countries of the world there is an active fight against the competitions doing harm to children's health and development. Children's beauty contests having negative consequences for children's health and development are already prohibited in a number of the regions of Russia and abroad. Legal gaps in the legislation that help the organizers of beauty contests transfer the responsibility even in case of the negative impact that is found later. The article insists that development of effective mechanisms of legal regulation of this sphere of the public relations in the Russian Federation is necessary. However at present there are no laws regulating children's beauty contests in the country. The authors suggest that a new Federal Law "About protection of psychological and physical health and development of the children participating in children's competitions" should be adopted, establishing tough sanctions for its violation in standards of the adjacent legislation. To develop children's abilities and talents it is better to hold children's competitions in creativity - musical, intellectual, literary, sports and other contests.
