Abstract: Due to globalization process which is characterized by clashes of cultures, the implementation of multicultural education becomes particularly important, as it allows representatives of various national, ethnic and religious groups to interact peacefully and effectively in modern society. The article deals with the factors that affect the quality of communication in the modern society and reflect the changes taking place in society at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The main directions of multicultural education are multi-ethno-cultural, multi-socio-cultural and multipersonal-cultural focused on successful communication practices in the educational process and are valuable to the society and individuals. The Internet space today is a good platform for communication of different age groups, formed according to interests, search requests, organization of leisure practices, and it also opens wide opportunities for educational activities. A vivid example is an open university with its focus on personality and its needs, dialogue and the continuity of the educational process. Positive and negative aspects are noted in the process of open education. The fundamental condition to obtain high quality education is the student's conscious activity, including self-organization, critical perception of information and the ability to choose the educational strategy. Distance learning is viewed as a productive practice in the activities of the Open University. The most significant technologies are case-technology, TV-technology, and network technology. The authors define the concepts of "multicultural education" and "open university", discuss legal acts and educational programs aimed at multicultural education, and come to the conclusion that this branch of activity is important for open education in a multicultural information society.
