Educational Potential of Folk Dance

Abstract: Folk dance is an effective means of educating a strong, creative personality with a developed national identity, which makes the deeper study of its educational potential relevant. To unleash this potential, each team leader needs certain methods and techniques, which are discussed in this article. Based on research in the field of pedagogy of art and choreographic education, the following methods have been identified: exercise, personal example, a system of positive examples, a game that contribute to the formation of certain value coordinates of the personality of a member of a choreographic collective. The article analyzes the educational potential of folk dance, on the one hand, as part of the system of additional education of children, on the other hand, as an integral element of traditional folk culture. The methods presented in the article were tested in the collective dance “Siberian patterns” in Novosibirsk. The article shows the possibilities of including such methods in classes for mastering communicative skills, for the formation of the national identity of each member of the creative team. It is proved that one of the effective forms of work in the folk dance collective is folk games, through which the members of the collective actively reveal their creative potential in parallel with the development of the choreographic features of folk dance. The article reveals the process of the formation of a creative personality during classes in folk dances, reveals its main qualities. The methods of dancing improvisation and performance evaluation, both of their own and other groups, contributing to the implementation of this process are presented. The results of the study expand the knowledge about the educational potential of folk choreography, make it possible to trace its influence on the formation of certain qualities of a child’s personality and can serve as a methodological basis for recommendations to beginning teachers-choreographers in folk dance groups.
