Abstract: The purpose of this article is to describe the methodical typology of difficulties of mastering the vocabulary of English civil protection discourse. The leading research methods were the analysis of scientific literature, testing, survey, and typology. The author reviews modern scientific views on the difficulties of mastering foreign language vocabulary. To achieve the stated goal, the research was conducted. Based on the results obtained, the author defines three main groups of possible difficulties that students can encounter when mastering foreign language vocabulary of professional discourse. The first group of objective difficulties is related to the linguistic and discursive specifics of the lexical material being studied and the differences in the systems of Russian and English languages. The second group of subjective difficulties is associated with the individual characteristics of students. The third group of possible difficulties refers to the peculiarities of organization of educational process that correlate with the impact of such factors as the limited number of hours allocated for learning a foreign language, the prevalence of different types of speech activities in learning process etc. It is concluded that the proposed methodological typology of the difficulties of mastering English vocabulary of civil protection discourse allows to categorise the types of difficulties according to linguistic and discursive specifics of training materials, individual characteristics of students, peculiarities of learning activity; to develop learning strategies to overcome the difficulties identified; to offer methodical support for teaching strategies for working with vocabulary of professional discourse to non-linguistic students. The results of this study can be used when teaching foreign language to non-linguistic students.
