Teaching of the Second Foreign Language at a Linguistic University for Students From the Indigenous Peoples of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia

Abstract: The relevance of the study is justified by the fact that the development trends in the current relations with international partners define the requirements for professional language training of future specialists, which include the development of communicative skills of a professional, as well as the need for studying several foreign languages. The analysis of regulations, theoretical papers, the experience of higher school and the peculiarities and difficulties that arise when learning a second foreign language allowed to reveal contradictions on the scientific and theoretical level between the need for teaching qualified professionals and underdevelopment of scientific and theoretical bases of teaching a second foreign language according to the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of the new generation. The integrated use of the communicative, hermeneutic, and ethnocultural approaches determines the educational strategy in the process of forming the foreign language communicative competence in a second foreign language in the environment of the ethnic subject of the Russian Federation. Experimental work on teaching a second foreign language to linguistic students was carried out in the period 2001-2018 at the Department of Translation and Interpretation, Institute of Modern Languages and International Studies, North-Eastern Federal University. Teaching a second foreign language was carried out in the frames of complex foreign language environment including academic subjects, elective courses and student societies. Some aspects of teaching a second foreign language were described in scientific papers published in conference proceedings. The article provides a general description of the experimental work on teaching a second foreign language to students from native people of Sakha (Yakutia) in a linguistic university.
