"Civic-Patriotic Education": Design of the Contents of the Master's Educational Program

Abstract: Discussion of the issues of discrepancy between the ideal image of a teacher and contemporary realities, as well as the quality of graduates' training in pedagogical universities, became the basis for solving the problems of modernizing teacher education. The solution of some problems in the professional training of teachers connected with the knowledge of applicants entering pedagogical universities, poor knowledge of modern technologies by teachers, introduction of new educational standards and, consequently, new requirements for a teacher, not only as a "subject", but also educator, were in the focus of attention of the Comprehensive Project for the Modernization of Teacher Education. Within the framework of the project a new principle of designing educational programs was proposed – a modular one. One of the directions of modernization was the Master's program "Pedagogical Education". In the article the Master's program "Civic-Patriotic Education" was analyzed, the purpose of which was to improve the professional competences necessary for work with children and young people in general and additional education. Four modules were proposed: 1) "Modern Education: Directions of Development", whose tasks included discussion of the problems of education development in Russia and the world at the present stage, caused by the changes in the sociocultural situation; 2) "Theory and Practice of Civic-Patriotic Education", whose aim is to disclose the directions of teacher's work in the sphere of civic-patriotic education at the theoretical and practical levels; 3) "Socio-cultural Aspects of Civic-Patriotic Upbringing", aimed at familiarizing with the values of the national history and culture through the disclosure of the key problem of the formation of general civil, ethno-cultural and regional identity; 4) "Socio-Pedagogical Support of Students" focuses on developing practical skills to provide pedagogical support for socialization. Based on the survey of potential consumers of this program, a conclusion is made about the prospects for its further implementation.
