Abstract: Today, museums are open for a dialogue with historically important values and meanings of cultures; they interpret the past experience with the help of certain mechanisms and forms of cooperation with the society. Games, quests, events, museum routes, author’s projects, lectures and others become an inceparable part of museum activities. Cooperation with specialists in different spheres (architecture, design, art-management, photography, etc.) contributes to the positive image of museums and make them attractive to the audience. The article explains the difference between the concepts of “cultural-educational activity” and “cultural-leisure activity”, which are often used as synonyms. Besides it provides examples of synthesis of these activities in the work of Russian museums, which aim at fulfillment of the demands of the culture of the XXI century. Interaction is a component of project activity, which attracts the audience, cooperation and personal fulfillment when solving educational and leisure problems. Students of Cultural Studies in Ural State Pedagogical University worked out the project “TopArt” to attract young people in Ekaterinburg museums.
Key words: One of the current trends today is project activity, implemented in cultural institutions as a way of solution of tasks in applied cultural studies.
