Abstract: The article touches upon the problems of classification of the educational and professionally-oriented students’ activity in the process of mastering foreign language; it introduces the results of the theoretical analysis of the following terms: «motive», «cognitive motive», «motivating sphere»; the classification of the motives in the process of mastering foreign language by the students of the tourism specialties is suggested.
