Elements of Intensive Methods for Teaching a Second Language to Students of Linguistics

Abstract: The article deals with the problem of teaching a second foreign language to students specializing in Linguistics and some methods to solve this problem. Inclusion of elements of Intensive Foreign Language Teaching into practical classes in a second language can be one of them. Intensive Teaching Methods have been designed and widely used in Language-Teaching Courses. The use of such teaching methods has proved to be successful. The article under consideration presents goals and tasks of a practical course in a second foreign language for students specializing in Linguistics. The article also regards the problem of lack of classroom time devoted to studying the course which causes difficulties in achieving the goals. The possibility to use elements of intensive teaching such as, e.g., discussing material in advance in introducing new material, training language material with the help of backup resources of students, communication practice in real/life situations, and role-playing during classes in a second language would allow to gain the desired results more effectively.
