Terms-Metaphors in French Anatomic Terminology

Abstract: Metaphorical nomination is one of the most topical research guidelines in cognitive terminology. The article dwells on anatomic terminology in French. The topic of the article is defined as metaphorical nomination in the French anatomic terminology. The aim of the study is to reveal the basic sources of terms-metaphors in the French anatomic terminology. On the basis of semantic and cognitive analysis, the author establishes the main source domains of metaphorical nomination in this terminology: “Architecture”, “Clothes”, “Geometric figure” and “Tree”. The author draws the conclusion about the productivity of these domains in the metaphorical conceptualization of anatomic objects in the anatomic discourse; the article demonstrates the similarity of these domains which makes possible metaphorical rethinking and nomination of anatomic objects. It also shown also that the terminological worldview is closely connected with common knowledge and the knowledge of other sciences and domains.
