Abstract: The article offers a brief review of the book by a Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Institute of Social Education of the Ural State Pedagogical University V.V. Bayluk ―Principles and Methods of Education and Self-education of Students‖ (Ural State Pedagogical University, Ekaterinburg). High practical value of the book is demonstrated by the presented model of personal properties of the student, which is believed by the author to be an ideal of education in higher school. Such model has every right to become a basis for designing educational higher school programs and, as the training manual itself, may become a methodological foundation for educational activity of higher education institutions. Furthermore, the book contains valuable recommendations about the formation of creativity of students, development of the processes of self-knowledge, self-projecting and self-realization, which becomes a necessary condition for the development of professional competence of the young specialist and for the right choice of the future career. The training manual might be useful for a broad variety of readers: higher school managers, teachers, master‘s degree students, post-graduate students and undergraduate students in terms of comprehension and projecting of the content and techniques of implementation of self-education.
