Abstract: The article analyzes a number of sources disclosing the meaning of the term “scientific school” and shows the characteristic features of this notion. A scientific school is a special form of cooperation of scientific activity. It is a complex social Phenomenon. A scientific school is built around a scientific idea; a scientific school is characterized by a specific object of research, a uniform paradigm of scientific activity, the presence of a leader, i.e. a scholar possessing high personal and scientific authority, non-formal approach to research, traditions and succession of generations of scholars, discovery of new areas of study and innovative technologies of search and implementation of new knowledge. The author describes the history of development of the scientific school in technical design in Sverdlovsk State Pedagogical Institute: its initiators and students, problems and results of activity. The article defines the origins of the Urals School of social pedagogy, the development of theoretical and pragmatic aspects of social pedagogy in the framework of the scientific school and the functioning of the Urals scientific school of social pedagogy in modern conditions. The described scientific school emerged at the same time with the institution of social pedagogy in Russia in 1990. A new area of research of methodological nature is presented in the article – the notional apparatus of pedagogy and education. The urgency of the school is connected with the revision of the content of many pedagogical categories and notions and the necessity of bringing to order many new notions and terms. The article discloses the authored technology of scientific pedagogical research. It is necessary to form methodological reflexivity of young scholars. For this end, the authors have worked out original methods of technology of scientific-pedagogical research: every member of a seminar in turn functions either as the moderator (when problems of research are being discussed), or as an opponent.
