Abstract: The article presents the description of an innovative model of informational and library service for users based on Information-intellectual Centre – Scientific Library and describes its main components. The article gives the characteristic features of the informational space, which is based on free access to document fund and electronic resources. It puts special emphasis on the priority lines of activity of the university library. The author describes the history of the library which was open in 1930. Its funds were formed on the basis of book donations from various higher education institutions, and first of all from the library of the Urals Polytechnic Institute and book collections of many libraries, societies and social organizations. 1986 became a crucial moment in the history of the library, when it moved to a specially designed building. Essential changes in the work of the library took place in 2010 – both in the information resources and in the techniques of using them (remote access to databases, interactive information search and electronic receipt of documents). More and more readers prefer remote access to the library resources. The following new forms of library use may be mentioned: ordering delivery of a publication or its e-copy, independent work with open on-line resources or access to licensed resources on completion of certain conditions. Another important field of activity of the library consists in collection and provision of information about publishing activity and citation index of university faculty and raising citation index of USPU in various data bases. The article also describes innovative projects and participation in contests and received awards of the library.
