Abstract: The article deals with problems that can be solved, and are being really solved by advanced mobile devices in the field of education in higher education institutions. It offers a terminological analysis of mobile learning, the analysis of work-related issues in the sphere of application of mobile devices in learning and their didactic functions. The article dwells on basic possibilities of using mobile devices in education, their advantages in comparison with stationary systems and possible disadvantages of their use in education process. The author gives examples of application of these aids in the system of modern education. The possibilities of mobile devices for testing, survey, remote training, visualization, demonstration of material are discussed in the article. The paper proposes a number of specialized uses of mobile devices that may be included in the education process: device control, navigation systems, students’ attendance records, etc.; it also provides examples of their application for the study of various disciplines. In conclusion, it is specified that mobile devices possess a strong potential for their use in the education process of the university, which will undoubtedly require their further study, including the development of software and accompanying methodological support. The materials of the article can be used by teachers of information technologies in order to improve education process.
