Abstract: Educational system of each state has its individual peculiarities, and their specificities are defined through the state’s objectives. It is revealed on different levels of educational system: school, extraclass and extraschool activities, teacher’s explanatory work etc. However, the official acts thereupon have the primary importance. They systematise goals and objectives, which the government brings to educational establishments in various fields of education, including the field of citizenship education. Therefore, main educational documents of the Russian Federation are examined in this article (including the National Doctrine of Education, the concept of educational modernisation, government programmes of civic and patriotic education, instructions of Ministry of Education in the scope of citizenship education etc.) for the purpose of bringing to light goals which the government addresses to the educational system in terms of citizenship education. The content analysis of the text of a document is a methodological basis for the execution of work. The results of educational documents research revealed the following characteristics, acting as goals and objectives of civic education: the formation of civic competence of a personality, the education of students in the spirit of patriotism, the development of legal competence of students, cultivating a sense of pride and profound respect for symbols of the Russian Federation, the development of tolerance and responsibility in students.
