Abstract: The necessity for modernization of pedagogical education is discussed in wide and dynamic social context considering concrete and controversial results of the previous years. Using the authentic expert survey of profile pedagogical and liberal universities, carried out with the use of textual analysis of documents, the general achievements are singled out, and the peculiarities of movement along an innovative way are stressed. The highlight of attention are such problems as introduction of models of continuous pedagogical education on the regional level; interaction with organizations and subjects of various levels (stakeholders) having interest in quality multidisciplinary education; teacher’s mastering of future new social and professional functions, acquisition of necessary competencies; contradictions of interaction of science – education – business, imbalance of educational and labor markets, ways of their overcoming; necessity of clear definition of directions of executive activity in the process of designing and implementation of a model of development of a regional pedagogical university for the period of 2016 – 2020. The speed and extent of advancement of status position of a pedagogical university in regional cultural-educational space depends on the solution of these problems.
