Abstract: Different variants of the sense of duty of a person in society (in the educational process, at work and in the army) are discussed in the article. The author’s vision of the causes of appearance and dominance of the sense of duty, responsibility, will and volitional qualities is presented. It is argued that the sense of duty is artificially imposed on the society by means of spreading the fear of punishment. There are examples that prove genetic nature of the sense of duty. Based on the previous researches, it is possible to say that the testees carry out simple unintentional actions at maximum speed, on demand from the tester, without any volition. The mistakes of parents and teachers are pointed out, which do not stimulate transition of the sense of duty to responsibility of children. The absence of parents’ reaction on the child’s request “I’ll do it by myself”, excessive control over the teenager’s life and deprivation of freedom of choice are the most typical parents’ mistakes. Based on the multi-dimensional and functional analysis of individual properties and qualities introduced by A.I. Krupnov, a list of indicators necessary for the study of the sense of duty is offered. In accordance with this approach, the sense of duty is studied from the point of view of inherent components of psychology, which occurred during one’s lifetime.
Key words: Duty; responsibility; will; volitional qualities; fear.
