Abstract: The article is devoted to the development of spiritual and moral qualities of the future teacher of foreign languages in higher education. Spiritual and moral properties of the personality of the future teacher are the necessary condition of their professional aptitude; the development of spiritual and moral qualities of the person is based on the study of the topical block “Teaching profession. Characteristics of a teacher, a pupil, a student” in the discipline “Foreign language in professional life”. The article considers the definitions of “spirituality” and “morality” in explanatory and psychological dictionaries. The author gives brief definitions of “spirituality” and “morality” and offers a definition of “spiritual and moral qualities of the personality of the future teacher”. The article contains an original story of a German contemporary author of short prose on the basis of which the actions of the main characters taking into account their spiritual and moral positions; a set of exercises for the development of spiritual and moral properties is presented. The article also contains tasks which are to be done in the form of exercises (put down associations called forth by the title of the text; put down the key words; find sentences in which the main characters are described directly or indirectly; give assessment of the actions of the characters taking into account their spiritual and moral positions; think of an alternative title for the story).
