Abstract: The article considers the basic modern paradigm of the educational process at the University over the past few years paying special attention to the implementation of knowledge-oriented process-focused paradigm, and reveals its opportunities in teaching the Russian language to Chinese students. The author generalizes her long-term experience in teaching the course “Bilingual Lexicography” to Chinese students at the Ural State Pedagogical University (at Department of Russian Language and General Linguistics). The author considers it necessary to introduce in the educational process the knowledge-oriented process-focused paradigm, which ensures the students’ acquisition of key competences formed as a result of their active learning which needs the knowledge and experience acquired by generations. This paradigm forms the active self-dependent personality of the student. This aim presupposes acquisition of knowledge in a specific field and mastery of the leading competences developing analytical thinking needed for the future social and professional activity of the students.
