The Unity of Knowledge and Activity in the Lessons of Russian in Secondary Schools

Abstract: Teaching Russian in secondary school is an important aspect of secondary education in China, where Russian is one of the obligatory subjects. On this level, teaching Russian not only develops linguistic abilities of students, but also increases general knowledge in the sphere of science and literature and forms scientific approach to life, values and the world. The author of this article describes the methods that help to learn a foreign language. The listening, speaking and writing skills are acquired with the help of a teacher, who should motivate secondary school students to do the tasks. “The unity of knowledge and activity” is achieved in the spheres of cognition and emotion, and the students may develop their cognitive and emotional processes in the course of training. When giving new information, much attention is paid to the explanation of the meaning of the new words and practice of their use in composite sentences. The author of this article argues the importance of practice, and proves that it should prevail over explanation.
