Abstract: In the modern conditions of globalization and deepening disintegration of the Russian (and the world as a whole) society according to economic, social (ethnic, confessional and sub-cultural), political and other reasons patriotism becomes especially important. Patriotism is a most important value and one of the basic factors of spiritual and moral integrity of a society. Patriotic education has always been a priority task of the state. The necessity and importance of purposeful patriotic education is caused by several reasons including the disunity of the Russian society and the absence of generally accepted national idea. The article reveals the important role of the well-formed image of the native land in patriotic education. Education of patriotism is impossible without the knowledge of history, geography and culture of the native land and without country study and knowledge of national traditions. It is desirable that the study of history be organized not only at the lessons but also out of school (in museums, at exhibitions, during excursions, etc.). The article argues that Sverdlovsk region is rich in image resources which facilitate the development of patriotism.
