Towards a Media Literate Person: From Theory to Practice

Abstract: The subject of the article is an image of modern youth, featuring characteristics of thinking and perception of reality in the face of a constant flow of information. «Clip thinking» possesses not only negative characteristics, but also carries a positive effect. The speed of receiving and processing of information allows to translate meanings and values of culture on a different level, it also transforms the attitude to reality. The main goal of the article is to develop a new methodology for studying the World Art Culture according to the specificity of information perception of modern pupils. The educational system nowadays is focused on the formation and development of key competences such as individual media literacy. Information space of visual images requires scientifically grounded methodical solutions aimed at mastering and managing of the social and cultural reality. The “Image and Idea” research work by G. I. Danilova formed the basis of the proposed methodology of studying cinema art at school. This methodology was tested, which allowed to evaluate the relevance and usefulness of the principles in media education taking into account the specificity of 2000`s youth in subject-subject educational interaction. The formation and the development of visual literacy skills seem to be effective while studying cinema artworks as the most coherent media system.
