Attachment to Mother and Vocational Identity of Adolescents

Abstract: The article is devoted to the research of vocational identity of adolescents with different types of attachment to mother. The urgency of this topic is confirmed by the increasing complexity of the social situation of adolescents, increasing importance of personal professional perspective formation, the need of making an early decision in the pre-professional self-determination within the context of insufficient level of personal autonomy of adolescents and the need to involve family resources to make this decision. 283 adolescents, high school students of 9-11 grades, were tested in the experiment. The average statuses of professional identity of the adolescents correspond to the age standards – formed professional identity and the moratorium (professional identity crisis of choice). Differences were found between the characteristics of the formation of professional identity of today's adolescents (research was held in 2015) and adolescents, participants of the research in 2004. The interrelation of the type of attachment to the mother and the features of the construction of professional identity among adolescents was revealed: according to the data obtained in the research, a "healthy" type of attachment to mother (secure type of attachment to mother) corresponds to a healthy status of the professional identity of the adolescents. The article discusses the dynamics of the formation of professional identity among adolescents.
