The Psychological Aspect of Career Management by Students and Graduates

Abstract: The article focuses on the students’ and young specialists’ readiness to build their career. It represents career values of students and young specialists in Surgut and Surgutsky district. The purpose of this study consists not only in determining peculiarities of goal-setting and career planning by students of higher schools, but also in identifying the structure of dominating personal career orientations of young specialists. In this article the concepts of professional self-determination and professional career are defined, the connection between these concepts is highlighted. The conclusion is made that many people, especially the young ones feel uncertain having the freedom of career choice. As a result they take hasty decisions that are vitally important. They are not ready to competitive market relations and this brings crisis effect in their professional career growth. In the frames of a diagnostic method the content-analytical resume analysis, SWOT-analysis and the methodology of diagnostic career values in “Career Anchor” by E. Shane were considered.
