Abstract: The article presents some materials that might be helpful in organization of elective courses for advanced pupils using the activity approach in literature teaching within the framework of communicative didactics concept. Joint work of teachers and students on comprehension of the specifics of readers' interpretations of the poem «The Child in the Cradle» («Das Kind in der Wiege») by F. Schiller in Russian translation is regarded as a way of forming the readers' competence and the abilities of artistic perception. Comparing different translations, assessing their degree of equivalence with the original, the learners are able to go deeper into the complicated process of personal creative potential realization and to become familiar with different variations of the creative dialogue between artistic self-consciences. Special attention is given to the translation by M. Lermontov. To Lermontov the source is only an impetus for creating his own poem embodying an image of the original sense of the world, accumulating the meanings of the original poem, due to the rich associative thinking of the Russian author. During the analysis, the students get acquainted with the gnome as a specific form of the genre of philosophical lyrics, genetically related to an antique poetical tradition. Thus we expand the idea of the richness of the lyrics genre features and enrich the students' general cultural horizons.
