Independent Work of Students at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Services

Abstract: Today much attention is given to the role of independent work in the system of higher education, there is an active search for innovative approaches to organization of independent work, new forms and methods of its activation are found. The article describes the experience of independent work of students of the faculty of Tourism and Hotel Services of the Ural State Pedagogical University. Independent work is regarded as an inseparable part of educational process; its main features, principles, content and forms are revealed; the content of work of all the members of educational process (Dean of the faculty, department, information-methodical centre, lecturers and students) in the frameworks of independent work organization is presented. The article discusses the problems of independent work organization and offers ways to solve them at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Services. Students play an important role in independent work organization: they get the tasks, study methodical recommendations, identify the goal and tasks of independent work, interpret connection between in-class and out-of-class work, make individual schedules for tasks accomplishment. The authors underline the necessity of strengthening of the professional component of independent work, the use of forms and methods that increase education quality, stimulate cognitive activity, develop creative and scientific abilities of a student, form skills of independent thinking and practical application of the knowledge.
